    AP Art - 40 weeks - 1 credit:

Advanced Placement Art is a course offered at York to give students a chance to do college-level work in studio art and possibly receive college credit for it. The program is intended for highly motivated students committed to serious study in art. Advanced Placement work involves significantly more time than most high school courses and is not meant for casually interested art students.

In AP Studio Art, because of the nature of the course, students will be asked to select pieces from their work to send to the College Board for evaluation by a group of artists and teachers. The evaluation is intended to let the student demonstrate the ability to deal with the fundamental concerns of the visual arts. Students may be given credit or advanced placement, or both, on the college level.

The portfolio of work will contain over 40 pieces separated into three sections; demonstrating quality, concentration, and breadth. Mr. Morgan has the specific criteria required for each section. Students may choose to take an AP art course in their junior and senior year.

    1. Students need to have taken and successfully completed Studio Art to be considered for enrollment in Advanced Placement Art. The High School Principal will make any exceptions to this requirement after consultation with the Senior High Counselor and the Advanced Placement Art Teacher.
    2. Students interested in taking Advanced Placement Art should speak with Mr. Morgan prior to enrolling in Advanced Placement Art in order to discuss expectations and course requirements.
    3. All students taking A.P. Art are required to pay approximately $75.00 in order to reserve an A.P. exam in May.
