The 67-square mile York Central School District is located amid the lush farmland of northwestern Livingston County, about 35 miles southwest of Rochester and 70 miles east of Buffalo. Included in the district are the hamlets of York, Leicester, Cuylerville, Fowlerville, Piffard, Retsof, Greigsville, Wadsworth, and Linwood.

The major source of employment is agriculture, mostly in the form of dairy and crop farming.  Industrial and manufacturing employers include Tabtronics, Arkema, American Rock Salt, and CPAC. Many area residents commute to Rochester for employment. The area offers a multitude of cultural and educational benefits. Colleges and universities serving the region include the University of Rochester, St. John Fisher College, Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, SUNY Brockport, and SUNY Geneseo, which is located just five miles from York Central.  We also have several public community colleges in our region including Alfred State, Genesee, Monroe, and Finger Lakes Community Colleges.

York's location provides easy access to the recreational opportunities of the Finger Lakes and the Genesee Valley, including nearby Letchworth State Park, home of the magnificent Genesee River gorge known as the "Grand Canyon of the East."
